In order to stop pedestrians crossing while traffic lights are still red, traffic police in Handan, Hebei Province, have launched what they called the “on-the-red-light dance.” But their creativity has failed to woo the majority of Chinese netizens. According to media reports, traffic police asked a group of school-age girls to dance on the zebra crossing while the light was on red. The local authorities claimed that the dancing girls were led by a traffic policewoman and there were other traffic police on hand to ensure their safety. But netizens pointed out that nobody could stop an out-of-control car from crashing into the crowd, and that minors should not be used as propaganda tools.
