2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up policy. In his 2018 New Year’s message, Chinese President Xi Jinping said policy was the only way for modern China to make progress in its development and pledged the nation would overcome all difficulties and carry reform through to the end. The policy has profoundly influenced the fate of the Chinese people, sustaining rapid economic growth unprecedented in human history. From “feeling for rocks while crossing the river” through to the establishment of the modern economic system, China’s reform and opening-up has reached a broad consensus. Now China has entered a “deep water zone” and is faced with more challenges than ever before. NewsChina has secured interviews with seven participants and witnesses of China’s reform and opening-up, including renowned economists and entrepreneurs, to give an inside account of the great social and economic transformation.
