Parents in Hunan Province are accusing a dairy company of providing substandard milk to underprivileged schoolchildren through a government program aiming to improve student nutrition. Controversy sparked when a video surfaced showing primary school students pouring the free milk they received into a ditch. According to the school, the students could not drink the milk “because it was too cold.” However, parents had long complained over the milk’s quality. According to reports, the local dairy company that produced the milk was not registered with the Dairy Association of China and had monopolized the government program in the area. An official investigation has been launched.
