According to statistics from the China Internet Network Information Center, China was home to more than 800 million internet users as of June 2018, 27.9 percent of whom were aged between 20 and 29. To better meet their demands, tech giants have released strategies to install a new generation of younger leaders. Tencent announced that at least 20 percent of its promotion opportunities are reserved for younger people. Search engine Baidu also pledged to promote more staff born in the 1980s or 1990s to managerial level. Jack Ma, chairman of Alibaba, will retire in September 2019 to give a new generation more opportunities. Having young, professional staff in senior roles is crucial to boost innovation, but it is also important that they are good team players, rich in experience and have clear career goals and steady ambitions.
