Over the past three years, authorities in Northeast China’s Jilin Province have sent over 400 farmers to learn advanced agricultural technologies in Japan, France and the Netherlands, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Developed countries not only pay close attention to quality of crops and by-products but also have perfected their marketing channels, while their agriculture industries tie closely into secondary and service industries.
China is seriously lacking in agricultural workers and professionals. Most young people in China are unwilling to engage in agriculture. Many farmers still use traditional, labor-intensive techniques.
Authorities must make efforts to cultivate new farmers trained in modern technologies and agricultural management, wrote commentator Qian Suwei for The Beijing News.
Jilin’s experience should be promoted around the country to train new farmers and help working farmers adapt to modern agricultural developments, Qian added.
