Turtle Tossed From Tall Building

Netizens were left shell-shocked by news of a turtle that was allegedly thrown from a high-rise building in Beijing’s Haidian District on August 28. A witness surnamed Li told media the turtle was as big as his palm and weighed about five kilograms. The unfortunate reptile died on impact and its shell shattered to pieces, Li said. Netizens were outraged, with many accusing the thrower of animal cruelty and putting people below at risk of injury. According to media reports, the community has struggled with residents throwing everything from food waste to water from windows. However, police have not caught anyone in the act due to lack of surveillance cameras. Given the numerous cases of people hurt and killed by objects thrown from buildings, netizens called on authorities to tighten security and for stricter punishment.
