In the internet era, online traffic has played an increasingly important role to boost the internet economy, sparking fraudulent activity in the generation of traffic. On March 1, the Cyberspace Administration of China released a regulation to crack down on fraudulent traffic and the chaotic market in which it specified that anyone who tries to generate fake traffic will be liable for the legal consequences. Fake traffic is unique to the internet age, tantamount to fake goods in the market economy, which are illegal activities that go against core business values and honest principles. Experts argued that given the complexity of fake traffic generation and the great market demand, comprehensive and long-term counter-measures are necessary to regulate fraudulent traffic.
