Cross-border E-commerce Drives Trade

China Report August 3, 2020

By NewsChina Updated Oct.1

China’s international trade and exports have been severely impacted by Covid-19. Cross-border e-commerce sales, however, have provided a new option for small- and medium-sized enterprises to exploit overseas markets. In 2019, China’s export sales volume of cross-border e-commerce reached 186 million yuan (US$27m). In the first five months of this year, it witnessed an increase of 12 percent year-on-year amid the pandemic. In April, China increased the number of cross-border e-commerce zones to 105 and released tax-free policies for some products to boost exports. Cross-border e-commerce has played an increasingly important role to stabilize exports and create employment and it will become a new mode and engine to drive cross-border trade.
