Script Murder or Live Action Role-Playing (LARP) games are hugely popular with young people in China. Many are obsessed with experiencing and witnessing a life that is so different from their own. It also gives them a chance to meet new people without the pressure of getting too close. Being a games master, who hosts and runs the game, is emerging as a new profession. It is estimated there are some 180,000 full-time games masters working in the industry. Unlike the general idea that it is a comfortable and flexible job which pays people to play games, the profession requires a lot of overtime, quick reactions and a strong personality to keep players engrossed. Their salaries vary in accordance with their performance. There are lots of part-time games masters as well who are just working for fun.
