Artificial intelligence and clean energy have enabled China’s economic transition to one of tech intensive and innovation-driven growth accompanied by its carbon reduction goals. Progress is demonstrated in mining, agriculture, heavy industry, transportation and green construction, aligned with the UN’s agenda proposed in 2004. The adoption of unmanned mining trucks and seed-dropping drones has slashed carbon consumption, raised efficiency and improved safety. The streamlined discharge, storage and transportation of steel materials in a closed loop has cut energy consumption and flying dust. China’s first 500-kilowatt hydrogen-powered vessel is now cruising along the Yangtze River. Synthetic graphite paves new industrial pathways and the lifecycle of cement used for green smart buildings is lengthened from 120 to 200 years. However, experts warned that some companies are exaggerating their green credentials as a form of greenwashing.
