China spent 5.22 percent of its GDP on education in 2016, according to a report released by the Ministry of Education in September.

On October 15, 1987, Taiwan authorities started allowing residents to visit relatives on the Chinese mainland, ending a gap of 38 years of formal communications across the Taiwan Straits.

Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Vietnam from November 10 to 13, further strengthening ties between the two Asian nations.

China has become the biggest source of tourists to ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), according to the People’s Daily. The Party paper revealed that in 2016, there were 38 million visits between China and ASEAN nations, supported by 2,700 weekly flights linking China and the 10 nations in the regional bloc.

There were a total of 11.62 million live births in China over the first eight months of 2017, representing a 2.4 percent year-on-year increase, with 52 percent of the babies being the second child in their families.
