China’s August CPI (consumer price index, a crucial indicator of inflation) has risen to a new peak over the past seven months, says the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
According to the NBS, China’s CPI in August grew by 1.8 percent compared to that of last August and by 0.4 percent compared to July.
Analysts have attributed the growth to the rising price of vegetables, which has shot up by 9.7 percent compared to July, contributing around 0.22 percent of the total growth of August’s CPI.
Given there is no single element pushing the CPI to soar, analysts predict that the CPI’s growth will continue at a mild pace in the future. As winter approaches, analysts suggest paying closer attention to the price of vegetables and other agricultural products which are sensitive to climate.
