The Zhongguancun Science Park, China’s first national high-tech industrial park and a key innovative business incubator, has been a calling card of Beijing as the capital of politics, economy and science since its inception more than 20 years ago. Under the joint development strategy of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, enterprises in Zhongguancun, dubbed China’s Silicon Valley, have over the years established more than 7,400 branches in the area by the end of 2018. This is seen as a fine example of coordinated development in science. An IP rights protection center was also launched at the Tianjin (Binhai)-Zhongguancun Science Park in Tianjin Municipality in 2018. Zhongguancun Science Park’s advanced technology and industrial support policies, coupled with efficient services have profoundly accelerated the integration of the joint market in the region, attracting more enterprises to relocate there. The cooperative mechanism is expected to push high-quality development, economic reform and innovation in more city clusters.
