A recent study on advanced manufacturing in the US, the UK and Japan highlighted the strengths of each country worthy of China’s attention, read a report in the Economic Daily.

According to the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), US manufacturing is focusing on internet and AI applications, such as intelligent robots, advanced sensors and advanced materials.

The UK aims to develop critical fields such as transportation, pharmaceutical and biological sciences, petroleum, natural gas and other high-value fields.

Japan is putting its efforts into combining traditional manufacturing with AI in areas such as auto, household appliances and machinery manufacturing, the CCIEE report read.

China should follow the US and UK in establishing a State-level research center that allows researchers to better understand market demands and to apply new technologies more quickly. Governments at all levels could also provide subsidies or adopt tax cuts to encourage smart technologies.

To promote technologies at the initial stages, the government should purchase technology and equipment to help enterprises better open up the market.

Besides, investment in public research and development facilities also needs attention, such as public laboratories or testing and inspection centers to provide free platforms to ordinary people with opportunities to develop innovative technologies.
