Chinese authorities have stepped in after a growing number of children appeared in livestreams selling cosmetics and blogging about makeup. The posted videos show children, many less than 10 years old, sharing their insights about cosmetics brands and applying makeup with the air of professionalism. Critics find the trend a cause for concern, saying the videos could push minors to care too much about their appearance and even cause psychological harm. Medical experts also warned against children’s use of cosmetic products, saying that their skin is much more sensitive and vulnerable to irritation than adults. In May, China’s internet authorities issued a regulation on livestreaming sales that bans anyone under the age of 16 from engaging in livestreaming sales.
