Science Proves All Love Must Die

A video from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) went viral after it claimed to scientifically prove that love is doomed to end. First posted on Sina Weibo, the video presents a thesis from a doctoral candidate at the CAS’s Institute of Physics which, through a series of probability and mathematical models, demonstrates the low probability of anyone meeting a suitable partner, and even lower possibility of marrying them. Arguing that marriage in some sense means the end of a romantic relationship, the thesis concludes that “all love eventually ends.” The video sparked hot debate among young people on social media, especially China’s growing number of singles, who mocked that they now have a scientific reason to stay that way.
