Chinese Vice-President Talks with French President during Olympics

As a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and talked with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace in Paris on July 26.

As a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and talked with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace in Paris on July 26. 

While delivering China’s best wishes for a successful Paris Olympic Games, Han stressed that President Xi Jinping’s State visit to France this May demonstrated the unique and high-level nature of China-France friendship and is of great significance to the steady and sound development of China-Europe relations and global peace and stability, according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Macron echoed Han, saying that Xi’s May visit to France was very successful and that he had friendly talks with Xi. 

Han also met with President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach. Han told Bach that in the current international situation, it is all the more important to carry forward the Olympic spirit, and that China has always supported the development of the International Olympic Movement and maintained long-term good relations with the IOC. 

China sent a delegation of 716 people to the Paris Olympic Games. Team China won 91 medals, 40 of which were gold medals.
