Medical tensions in China are a complex problem with many causes, involving technological advances, imbalanced medical resources, tightly-scheduled diagnoses and patients who are upset by long waits to see doctors. With computerized CT scans, X-rays and MRIs, outpatient doctors can make quick and precise diagnoses without asking too many questions. But these quick consultations can distress patients, many of whom have traveled far and waited a long time for their appointment. Lack of effective communication leads to patient mistrust. To improve the situation, doctors should show more understanding and empathy toward patients, while patients and their families should respect medical staff and their professionalism more. Experts are calling for a better legal process to solve medical disputes before they escalate.
