The China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced the successful recovery of the country’s first reusable and recoverable satellite.
The Shijian-19 satellite was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu Province on September 27. It touched down at Dongfeng Landing Site in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on October 11 after two weeks in low-Earth orbit with its cargo of experiments intact. The recoverable spacecraft carried plant and microbial breeding payloads, as well as autonomous, controllable and new technology verification test payloads, space science experiment payloads, and cultural items, the CNSA said.
As an important satellite for testing new technologies during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), the Shijian-19 developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation can be reused more than 10 times and its recoverable load has hit 500 kilograms.
