A new international academic organization to promote space exploration was launched in Hefei, Anhui Province on July 7.
The International Deep Space Exploration Association (IDSEA), the first global scientific organization focused on studying deep space initiatives, is a collaboration led by China’s National Space Administration and other domestic and international agencies. Its scope includes studying lunar exploration, interplanetary exploration and planetary defense, as well as trends in deep space exploration and future technological paths.
Wu Weiren, general designer of China’s lunar exploration project and an academia at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was chosen as the first chairman. He told Xinhua News Agency that IDSEA is vital for Chinese scientists to communicate and cooperate with international scientists and is a remarkable step for global collaboration in deep space exploration.
China provides several platforms for international cooperation in space exploration. In April, China announced that seven institutions from six countries have been authorized to study lunar surface samples brought back by China’s Chang’e-5 mission in 2020, and China has invited global partners to cooperate in its Mars Tianwen-3 sample-return mission, which is expected to launch around 2028.
