The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal hosted a reception in Kathmandu on the evening of February 7 to celebrate the upcoming Tibetan New Year.
The event brought together more than 1,300 Tibetans residing in Nepal, who gathered in a festive atmosphere to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, which falls on February 18. The venue was filled to capacity, reflecting the strong sense of community among attendees.
In his remarks, Zhou Pan, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, extended sincere festive greetings and best wishes for the new year to the Tibetan compatriots living in Nepal.
The reception featured a series of cultural performances by the Guoluo Prefecture Ethnic Song and Dance Troupe from Qinghai Province. Performances included dances and songs. One particular dance showcased intangible cultural heritage such as Thangka painting and calligraphy.
In addition to the performances, the Embassy distributed New Year gifts to attendees. A number of participants said that they deeply felt the warmth and care from their homeland, and conveyed their heartfelt wishes for continued prosperity and strength of the motherland.
The reception is one of a series of Chinese New Year celebrations organized in Nepal.
