China officially released the Standard System for Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence (2026) on February 28, the country's first top-level standard design covering the entire industrial chain and life cycle.
Released at the Annual Conference on Standardization of Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence held in Beijing, the new standard covers six aspects, including basic commonality, brain-like and intelligent computing, limbs and components, complete machines and systems, applications and safety ethics, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
The standard normalizes core technologies related to the computing of humanoid robots and embodied intelligence, as well as the development, operation and maintenance of related products in application scenarios.
Experts said the standard signals that the sector in China is shifting from disorderly growth to a new phase of standardized development. According to 36Kr Research, a Chinese organization engaged in venture capital analysis, China's embodied intelligence market expanded from 213.3 billion yuan (US$29.4b) in 2018 to 915 billion yuan (US$126.27b) in 2025, and its combined value is expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan (US$138b) in 2026.
