While pursuing tangible gains by prioritizing growth and higher efficiency, few Chinese people take an interest in exploring real beauty in life, especially in the age of AI. Because of the emphasis on grades, arts subjects in schools, which are hard to evaluate by concrete standards, are marginalized. Without aesthetic appreciation, decorations in streets or in scenic spots are either swanky and shallow or out of keeping with the surroundings. Instead of appreciating the beauty of nature or exploring the profundity of historical sites, most travelers visit scenic spots and take retouched photos to post on WeChat Moments. Paying no respect to artistic creativity, investors intervene too much in the advertising industry, causing products to look vulgar and ugly. Scholars point out that aesthetics, an embodiment of human mindsets, emotions and spirits, should neither be quantified nor ignored.
