The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) set up a Subcommittee on Express Delivery Services in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on June 2, establishing the world's first specialized international standardization body focusing on the global express delivery industry.
Initiated by China's State Post Bureau and proposed by China's National Standardization Administration in June 2024, the subcommittee was approved by the ISO in July 2025 after rigorous review and global voting. The institution aims to drive the high-quality and sustainable development of global express services by establishing an international platform for express service standards and promoting a unified global standard system, covering service quality certification, network construction and maintenance, innovative technological application, green industry development and industrial security guarantees, adhering to the principles of joint development, mutual exchange and resource sharing.
Zhao Chongqiu, director of the State Post Bureau, told Xinhua News Agency that the subcommittee will facilitate the construction of a more convenient, resilient, efficient and secure global express delivery network which will benefit people's livelihoods worldwide and support the sustainable development goals of the United Nations.
