Two sisters in Qinghai Province have triggered wide controversy online after they sold local air online at 15 yuan (US$2.30) per bag. According to the sisters, the air they sell is collected from local parks, and they also customerized services which allow users to choose the source of the air. The sisters told the media that they do so to enhance people’s awareness of improving air quality, although netizens regarded it as a stunt to make money. Some expressed doubts about how they could confirm the source of the air and some quipped that collecting the air in non-degradable plastic bags was hardly environmentally friendly.
