Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a video speech at the Global Trade in Services Summit of 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) on September 2, pledging that China will further increase openingup, expand international cooperation and improve the rules for the services trade.

Launched in 2012, CIFTIS is one of the leading platforms for China’s opening-up. The 2021 edition, which took place in Beijing, saw more than 12,000 enterprises from 153 countries and regions participating, 52 percent more than in 2020. Among them, 21 percent are Fortune Global 500 companies or industrial leaders.

To fulfill higher openingup, Xi proposed a negative list for the cross-border services trade, demonstration zones for innovative development of trade services, increased support for trade services along the Chinaled Belt and Road Initiative and sharing China’s achievements in technological development with the world.

Xi emphasized Beijing’s role in leading opening-up, encouraging Beijing and other big cities to connect to international practices for high-level free trade.

Altogether 1,672 projects were signed at CIFTIS, which lasted six days, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce.
