Some in Shanghai who previously contracted Covid claimed online that they have faced job discrimination. Media reports said in April, Chen Feng traveled to Shanghai from Guangzhou, Guangdong Province to work at a temporary quarantine shelter, where he eventually contracted Covid. Chen recovered quickly, but hotels refused him entry based on his health code record. With nowhere to go, Chen slept at train stations and parks. When Shanghai lifted its lockdown, Chen went job hunting. However, employers refused to hire him because of his Covid history. Shanghai government responded that they have ordered local businesses to abide by the Labor Law and stop the discrimination. The State Council demanded government departments to strictly supervise against any discrimination against people who had Covid-19. Analysts argued that both changes in government policies and social attitudes are necessary.
