Five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver were killed in a terrorist attack in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
The attack happened at about 1 pm local time on March 26 when a 13-vehicle convoy carrying the Chinese team working for the Dasu Dam, a hydroelectric station project under construction, was rammed by an explosive-laden vehicle which drove into the convoy from a side path. One vehicle caught fire, then fell into a ravine and exploded.
The Chinese side strongly condemned the terrorist attack and asked Pakistan to thoroughly investigate the incident as soon as possible. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari gave his condolences for the Chinese victims at the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and said that Pakistan “would not let terrorists undermine Pakistan and China’s shared goals for peace, prosperity and security in the region,” the Xinhua News Agency reported.
On April 2, media reported that Pakistan has arrested at least 12 suspects in connection with the attack. Police said the suspects were involved in the planning, but did not participate in it.
