A police station in Changsha, Hunan Province made famous in a popular TV show became an unexpected tourist attraction during the May Day holiday (May 1-5). Since 2019, Pozi Street Police Station has been the setting of Guardians of Jiefangxi, a four-season documentary series that explores the daily lives of officers patrolling Jiefangxi Road, the city’s renowned and often rowdy bar street.
With over 1.1 billion views racked up online, the Hunan TV series drew tourists from across China. Crowds lined up into the late hours for a photo in front of the station’s entrance, with many posing like police detainees – squatting with their hands behinds their heads.
As these tourists’ photos went viral online, the station’s popularity only grew, attracting even more visitors. Eventually, authorities in Changsha issued notices urging the public to maintain order and discouraging people from posing as detainees.
