Although the world has failed to reach 18 percent of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) set 10 years ago when the UN launched the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, China’s SDG ranking has risen by 19 spots to 49. More young Chinese are paying attention to climate change and are adopting low-carbon lifestyles. There is great demand for sustainable cities and communities in China. Among Chinese enterprises, reporting on environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals will play an increasingly vital role in green transitions, extending from domestic supply chains to global markets, where one-third of investors care about company sustainability. Supported by AI and big data, China’s food supply industry is undergoing green and low-carbon transitions, although many firms are not accustomed to making ESG reports. While more than half of respondents from about 20 countries in Deloitte’s latest survey admit they have experienced extreme weather, experts warned that timing is crucial to fulfill the SDGs for a sustainable future.
