Although the consumption market outlook is often described as gloomy, trendy toymaker Pop Mart and gold seller Laopu Gold saw revenues surge by more than 200 percent in the first half of 2025. An Yi Magazine survey of 4,113 mostly urban respondents aged 20-35 found that emotional value is essential to consumption behavior. Driven by scarcity marketing tactics as habits shift from luxury goods to concerts, hiking and camping, today’s consumers are more willing to explore new experiences. However, trendsetters’ habits can be transient, as athleisure brand Lululemon has learned to its cost. The survey also found that with consistent quality and targeted marketing strategies, established brands like Coca-Cola and Estée Lauder can still secure high sales. But experts warned that consumption habits will continue to evolve as lifestyles and priorities change.
