Animal rescuers in Sanya, Hainan Province attempted to save a stranded sea turtle weighing 100 kilograms that later died and found to have ingested three kilograms of plastic pollution. Rescuers took the turtle to an animal protection center, where they discovered the turtle was severely constipated. They then sent it to a veterinary hospital for an X-ray, which revealed the turtle’s intestinal tract was packed with unknown materials. Doctors operated and extracted fishing nets, hooks, lines and face masks from the turtle, some of which had ruptured its intestines. Netizens called on tourists not to throw trash into the sea.
