Septuagenarian Granted Divorce from Abusive Husband

After suffering more than four decades of domestic violence, a woman in her 70s from Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province who finally divorced her abusive husband won praise on social media. Ever since their marriage in 1975, the woman surnamed Liu said she had suffered physical and verbal abuse from her ex-husband. Every time she threatened to leave, he would beat her. Conservative in her values, Liu never sought to file for divorce until her son and daughter encouraged her.
